Roads and Engineering Structures

Thousands of vehicles travel daily on local and regional roads and on important roads in Brazil, which were either implemented and/or upgraded by Carioca Engenharia.

We actively participate in interventions on thousands of kilometers of roads connecting a country of continental dimensions. We have completed some major projects on roads, bridges and overpasses in many Brazilian states, such as Bahia, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Espírito Santo, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Guaratuba Bridge | PR

Underway

Bridge connecting the municipalities of Guaratuba and Matinhos. The structure is 1,244 meters long, featuring four traffic lanes measuring 3.6 meters each (two in each direction), two safety shoulders, concrete barriers, combined sidewalk/bike lanes on both sides (3 meters wide), and a 320-meter cable-stayed section.
On the north bank, the PR-412 highway was widened on both sides to facilitate alignment with the bridge. A U-turn under the structure was also built to connect local streets and link Estrada do Cabaraquara to Matinhos.
On the south bank, an elongated roundabout was constructed to connect the Caieiras neighborhood, along with elevation adjustment of the roadway, curve realignment, and the addition of an access ramp to Nossa Senhora de Lourdes Street.
In total, including the bridge and access roads, the project spans 3,100 meters.

Rodoanel Mário Covas Beltway | SP

Construction of Lot 5 South of the Rodoanel beltway, with 18 kilometers in length. This section required 35 special engineering structures, which included an overpass on Régis Bittencourt Highway, with 680 meters in length. In the foundations of the overpass, 667 piles were used, totaling approximately 11,000 meters in length, 82 pillars with crossbeams and 140 precast beams.

Arco Metropolitano | RJ

Earthmoving, paving, engineering structures and drainage of Lot 2 of the Arco Metropolitano highway in Rio de Janeiro, with 19.6 kilometers in length. The highway connects the city of Itaboraí to the Port of Itaguaí, crossing the cities of Guapimirim, Magé, Duque de Caxias, Nova Iguaçu, Japeri and Seropédica. In total, it is 145-kilometer long.

Via UHOS | RJ

With 17 bridges (10 concrete bridges and 7 steel bridges) over 18 kilometers, the UHOS (Ultra Heavy Over Size) road was built exclusively to transport heavy equipment and cargo, weighing up to 1,000 tons, to the Petrochemical Complex of Rio de Janeiro (COMPERJ), in Itaboraí.

Linha Vermelha Expressway | RJ

The Linha Vermelha expressway greatly enhanced the traffic into Rio de Janeiro by integrating many cities from the Baixada Fluminense area to the heart of the city. We participated in two construction stages.

Stage one: Construction of a 3,212-meter stretch of an expressway that connects the Caju district to the entrance to Ilha do Governador, consisting of a 1,432-meter-long bridge over the Cunha Canal, and 1,780 meters of 14.25-meter-wide double lanes, and five small bridges within a tight deadline of 11 months.

Stage Two: Construction of a 2,745-meter-long expressway and two lanes totaling 24 meters in width, and construction of a 1,575-meter-long bridge over a portion of the Guanabara Bay. The highlight were the steel pipe foundations laid 50-meters below sea level.

Geraldo di Biasi Belt Highway | RJ

Construction of a 23-meter-high, 243-meter-long bridge, 6 kilometers of paving, 15,000 m² of grass to retain two slopes, and urban development on the side ramps; drainage, and vertical and horizontal signs. The project was strategic to diverting heavy vehicle traffic and relieve traffic in the downtown district of Barra do Piraí, improving logistics, the economy and the quality of life of the local community.

Rio das Antas Bridge | RS

The Ernesto Dornelles Bridge, built on the border between the cities of Bento Gonçalves and Veranópolis, in Rio Grande do Sul, is supported by two rock-mounted arches, on both sides, with a free span of 186 meters.

Mato Alto Road | RJ

Duplication of Mato Alto Road, in the district of Campo Grande, to the west of Rio de Janeiro, for the purposes of improving the urban development, drainage and traffic between Estrada do Monteiro and Avenida das Américas. The project included earthmoving, paving a road stretch of 112,000 square meters, laying drainage pipes over 9 kilometers, building a 3-meter-wide median strip, installing a modern lighting system, sidewalks, a bike path, a pedestrian footbridge and new bridges over the Valão das Cinzas and Cabuçu rivers.

SP-280 Castelo Branco Highway | SP

First road project undertaken by Carioca in São Paulo. In 1988, the company played an important role in the restoration and maintenance of the Castelo Branco Highway, the main connection between the Metropolitan and Western regions of São Paulo.

Via Light Highway | RJ

The Via Light Highway, located in a densely populated urban area, is 10.7-kilometer-long and has a 21-meter-wide lane. From Rio de Janeiro, it Nilópolis, São João de Meriti and Nova Iguaçu, located in the metropolitan region of the state.

BR-381 Highway

BR-381 connects Espírito Santo to São Paulo, crossing the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte. Between the capitals of Minas Gerais and São Paulo, it is known as Rodovia Fernão Dias. Since 1979, Carioca has done many earthmoving, paving and other works on BR-381. The first one, in Vale do Aço, Minas Gerais, between Nova Era and Coronel Fabriciano, with 55.5 km in length, was completed in 1982. Then, in 1985, on lot 6 of the stretch between Belo Horizonte and the Minas Gerais-São Paulo border. Later, at the end of the 1990s, we participated in the duplication of a stretch of road between Nepomuceno and the border between Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
